Motherhood Later...Than Sooner - For Moms 35+ With Young Kids.
How are we growing and changing as older moms?
Hello everyone,
I am interested in learning how you all feel about our growing and changing as older moms. Now that some of our babies are a little older, it's interesting to look at how we as moms have grown and changed with them.
When I joined the Motherhood Later chapter in my hometown, I had a young son (1 1/2 years old) and wasn't sure about getting pregnant again. (Could I handle a second child? Would my body survive another challenging childbirth experience? The financial burden is an entirely different category itself ... how would my husband and I be able to adjust?)
Now I have two young boys - my oldest is 4 and youngest is 2. (Wow ... how did THAT happen so fast?) Although I still fall into the category of "older mom", I can say for sure that I am no beginner ... didn't quite feel that way about 3 years ago. ;-)
I have learned and grown and found out that although I am no medical student or seasoned professional, trusting my gut in most cases was the best thing. Many people were right when they said "you would just know" and others were not so right when they said "oh your kid will do this and that" ... each one of us are unique and different. Each one of our children are individuals with their very own talents, thoughts, emotions and perspective.
At this point in my life, I feel the need to reach out to other women in my life, but not necessarily other moms. I need to rebuild or get back in touch with my network ... my girlfriends, mentors, teachers, co-workers (former ...), and those who reconnect me to who I am as a person. I'm ready now ... for quite some time I wasn't. I really couldn't relate to anyone other than those going through the very same things at the very same time that I was ... mothers and motherhood! Now, I'm stronger, more confident, and definitely more capable of carrying on adult conversation. And I even have unique thoughts that don't surround what my child just said! (It's true! It does happen!!)
Maybe this is not what I originally thought ... maybe I need a "motherhood" group more than ever now ... and here I sit looking around the website, reading the entries and creating my own little space.
I so appreciate all of you being here to share the journey with me. :-)
